polycystic kidney medical definition

An inherited progressive disease characterized by formation of multiple cysts of varying size scattered diffusely throughout both kidneys and resulting in destruction of the kidney parenchyma, hypertension, bloody urine, and uremia. Also called polycystic disease of kidneys.
