A muscle continuous with the semispinal muscle of the thorax, with origin from the second to the fifth thoracic vertebrae, with insertion into the axis and the third to the fifth cervical vertebrae, with nerve supply from the dorsal branches of the cervical and thoracic nerves, and whose action extends the cervical spine.
