subacute combined degeneration of spinal cord medical definition

The degeneration of the posterior and lateral columns of the spinal cord caused by a deficiency of vitamin B₁₂ and usually associated with pernicious anemia, resulting in a prickling or burning sensation of the skin and a loss of coordination. Also called Putnam-Dana syndrome, vitamin B₁₂ neuropathy.
